dc.description.abstractThe complex components of fixed orthodontic appliances lead to the accumulation of plaque which increases the number of bacteria and makes it easy for bacteria to multiply, such as Streptococcus mutans and Staphylococcus aureus. The purpose of the study was to determine the effectiveness of telang leaf extract against bacteria which are risk factors for fixed orthodontics. The research method is experimental laboratory with Post Test Only Control Group Design. The research sample was ethanol extract of telang leaf which was diluted with DMSO to concentrations of 3.125%, 6.25%, 12.5%, 25%, 50%, Streptococcus mutans ATCC® 25175™ and Staphylococcus aureus ATCC® 29213™. Diffusion method of MIC test and dilution of MBC test to see the antibacterial effectiveness of the extract of telang leaf against Streptococcus mutans ATCC® 25175™ and Staphylococcus aureus ATCC® 29213™. The results of the MIC research of telang leaf extract against Streptococcus mutans ATCC® 25175™ at concentrations under 3.125% and MBC 3.125%. MIC of telang leaf extract against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC® 29213™ at a concentration of 25% and MBC 50%. There is an antibacterial effectiveness of telang leaf extract against Streptococcus mutans ATCC® 25175™ and Staphylococcus aureus ATCC® 29213™ with p = 0.000 which indicates there is a significant difference.en_US
dc.description.abstractKomponen alat ortodontik cekat yang rumit mengakibatkan akumulasi plak yang meningkatkan jumlah bakteri dan menyebabkan bakteri mudah berkembang biak, seperti Streptococcus mutans dan Staphylococcus aureus. Tujuan penelitian untuk mengetahui efektivitas ekstrak daun telang terhadap bakteri yang merupakan faktor risiko ortodontik cekat. Metode penelitian yaitu eksperimental laboratoris dengan Post Test Only Control Group Design. Sampel penelitian yaitu ekstrak etanol daun telang yang diencerkan DMSO menjadi konsentrasi 3,125%, 6,25%, 12,5%, 25%, 50%, Streptococcus mutans ATCC® 25175™ dan Staphylococcus aureus ATCC® 29213™. Metode difusi uji KHM dan dilusi uji KBM untuk melihat efektivitas antibakteri dari ekstrak daun telang terhadap Streptococcus mutans ATCC® 25175™ dan Staphylococcus aureus ATCC® 29213™. Hasil penelitian KHM ekstrak daun telang terhadap Streptococcus mutans ATCC® 25175™ pada konsentrasi kurang dari konsentrasi 3,125% dan KBM 3,125%. KHM ekstrak daun telang terhadap Staphylococcus aureus ATCC® 29213™ pada konsentrasi 25% dan KBM 50%. Terdapat efektivitas antibakteri ekstrak daun telang terhadap Streptococcus mutans ATCC® 25175™ dan Staphylococcus aureus ATCC® 29213™ dengan p=0,000 yang menunjukkan terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan.en_US
