    Pola Adaptasi Anggota Organisasi Keluarga Mahasiswa Jabodetabek (KMJ) USU dalam Menghadapi Culture Shock di Kota Medan

    Abstract
    In everyday life, each individual always communicates with certain people who come from other groups, races, ethnicities or cultures. This is referred to as intercultural communication. In undergoing the process of intercultural communication, individuals will definitely experience a shock to a culture that is different from the culture of origin. Based on the author's pre-study of 19 members of KMJ USU stated that they experienced problems when facing a new environment. Based on the response of 19 students who experienced culture shock, it was shown that the 15 students who experienced this had an impact on aspects of their lives as immigrants in the city of Medan. This different feeling is what is meant by cultural shock or culture shock. Every individual experiencing culture shock should try to adjust to a new environment. This research aims to describe the adaptation patterns of KMJ USU organizations in dealing with culture shock in Medan City. This research is also expected to be useful in academic and practical fields. This research is quantitative descriptive research. The study respondents were determined by non probability sampling (quota sampling) techniques distributed to 75 respondents. Data collection using questionnaires, interviews, observation and documentation. Data processing techniques use SPSS and use frequency distribution analysis until conclusions and research recommendations are obtained. The results of this study show that there are differences in the conditions experienced by each kmj organization student in the five phases of cultural adaptation. Differences in socio-cultural conditions resulted in students experiencing culture shock in the city of Medan. However, students choose to survive and face all existing conditions, so that overall all students are able to adapt to the new cultural environment. This can be seen from the results of the average score of the questionnaire score on the likert scale which is between the intervals of 2.6-3.25 showing a positive value. The obstacles in the adaptation pattern of students of the KMJ USU organization come from within themselves and the environment.
     
    Dalam kehidupan sehari-hari, setiap individu selalu berkomunikasi dengan orang-orang tertentu yang berasal dari kelompok, ras, etnik atau budaya lain. Hal ini disebut sebagai komunikasi antar budaya. Dalam menjalani proses komunikasi antarbudaya individu pasti akan mengalami suatu keterkejutan terhadap budaya yang berbeda dengan budaya asalnya. Berdasarkan pra penelitian penulis terhadap 19 anggota KMJ USU menyatakan bahwa mereka mengalami masalah saat menghadapi lingkungan baru. Ada beberapa perbedaan makna kata yang membuat kesalahpahaman dengan Berdasarkan respon 19 mahasiswa yang mengalami culture shock menunjukkan bahwa 15 mahasiswa yang mengalami hal tersebut berdampak terhadap aspek kehidupan mereka sebagai pendatang di kota Medan. Perasaan berbeda inilah yang dimaksud dengan keterkejutan budaya atau culture shock. Setiap individu yang mengalami culture shock harus berusaha menyesuaikan diri terhadap lingkungan baru. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan pola adaptasi anggota organisasi KMJ USU dalam menghadapi culture shock di Kota Medan. Penelitian ini juga diharapkan mampu bermanfaat di bidang akademis maupun praktis. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kuantitatif. Responden penelitian ditentukan dengan teknik quota sampling yang disebarkan kepada 75 responden. Pengumpulan data dengan menggunakan kuesioner, wawancara, observasi dan dokumentasi. Teknik pengolahan data menggunakan SPSS dan menggunakan analisis distribusi frekuensi hingga diperoleh kesimpulan dan rekomendasi penelitian. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan adanya perbedaan kondisi yang dialami masing-masing mahasiswa organisasi KMJ dalam lima fase adaptasi budaya. Perbedaan kondisi sosial budaya mengakibatkan mahasiswa mengalami culture shock di kota Medan. Namun mahasiswa memilih bertahan dan menghadapi segala kondisi yang ada, sehingga secara keseluruhan semua mahasiswa mampu beradaptasi di lingkungan budaya baru. Hal ini dapat dilihat dari hasil nilai ratarata skor kuesioner pada skala likert yang berada diantara interval 2,6-3,25 menunjukkan nilai positif. Adapun hambatan dalam pola adaptasi mahasiswa organisasi KMJ USU berasal dari dalam diri dan lingkungan.
