Malaria is a disease which is caused by parasite and is still become a public
health problem which is found in a whole world, especially in developing countries.
The different conditions of geographical environment, social economy, and social
culture (ethnic) make the differences in spreading of malaria. The disease of malaria
in the Province of Riau, especially in Rokan Hilir District still becomes a public
health problem where in 2004 there was an outbrake.
The purpose of this research which used explanatory survey is to
analyze the influence of patient’s behaviour on the Malaria cases in the Rokan Hilir
District. The population were determined proportionally from 4 (four) sub-districts as
the research locations, they are Bangko, Bangko Pusako, Rantau Panjang Kiri, and
Sinaboi. The samples for this study were 110 malaria’s patients. The data were
analyzed through multiple regression test.
The result of the multiple regression test shows that the knowledge of
respondents 52.7% in bad category; the attitude 51.8% in bad category; and the
behaviour 73.6% in middle category towards the malaria prevention. Based on the
statistic test, the variables which have the influence on malaria’s patients behaviour
are knowledge (p=0.000) and attitude (p=0,000). The malaria’s patients behaviour
has influence on the malaria cases (p=0.009).
It is suggested to the Rokan Hilir District of Health and related institutions to
increase the extension about malaria disease prevention either in quality or quantity to
the community , in order to minimize the cases of malaria. It is also suggested to
Rokan Hilir District Government to modify environmental program such as cleaning
the drainage to flow the stagnated water in the swamp area to the sea.
