Asthma is known for its individual characteristics and its variability, The prevalence of asthma is rapidly increasing all over the world, including Indonesia. It cannot be cured; it can only be handled. Asthma patients cannot be controlled; therefore, their life quality is significantly low. Accurate medication and management in increasing control of asthma can decrease the effect of uncontrolled asthma. The objective of the research was to explore the experience of asthma patients in controlling asthma at home. The research used descriptive phenomenological method. The samples were 12 respondents, taken by using purposive sampling technique. The data were gathered by conducting in-depth interviews and field notes. Data were analyzed with the approach Colaizzi. The result of the research showed that there were four themes: asthma was caused by internal and external factors, doing various therapies to cope with its relapse, doing some preventive methods from its relapse, and receiving family's moral support to handle its relapse. It is still difficult for asthma patients to handle asthma, especially when they are exposed to weather since it cannot be predicted. It is recommended that nurses give education on asthmatics and families when planning home from the hospital to further improve defense against asthma triggers and how to evaluate the therapeutic use of asthma treatment performed at home when asthmatics back control to hospital.
