Background. Characteristics in children suffering from chronic illnesses can affect psychosocial than healthy siblings and this has been expressed in some of the literature of the country. Objective. To assess behaviour problems in patient with congenital heart disease compared to their healthy sibling. Methods. A cross sectional study was conducted from Desember 2012- january 2013 at H Adam Malik Hospital, 50 patient diagnosed with congenital heart disease and 50 of their healthy sibling were included. The child behaviour checklist (CBCL), completed by mother or father, was used to assess behaviour problems in all children. Total Internalization and externalization processing assessment using chi-square test Results. n patients with congenital heart disease there are as many as 26% of patients with impaired value of internalizing and externalizing healthy while not found eksternalization impaired internalization and border line, but the value is found as much as 54% between the two groups found differences between the two. At a specific age of 13 years were 3 people who value ekternalization 4 people disturbed and undisturbed value internalization, thus found a significant difference between the age of 13 years with other age. But statistically nonsignificant P value on impaired internalization. On gender found significant differences between women and men, both internalizing and externalizing.
Conclusion. Healthy siblings congenital heart disease patients have a tendency to be able to have behavioral disorders that need to be done on their screening. Health profesionalis need to be taken into account facilitating families’ adjustment to a childhood congenital heart disease.
