The title of this thesis is "Lexical additions and reductions of Google-Translate from English to Indonesian Text”. A Magister Degree Program, the Graduate School of Universitas Sumatera Utara, 2012. The objectives of this study are (1) to find the lexical additions on translation results of Google-Translate, (2) to find the lexical deletions that occurs on the results of Google-Translate, and (3) to find the quality of translation seen in terms of readability on the results of Google-Translate. This research use descriptive-qualitative method that oriented to product Google-Translate, i.e. the research that focuses on the results of translation. The data source is thw daily Jakarta Post on January, 28th 2012 page 1 and 28 and the results of the translation in Bahasa Indonesia by Google-Translate, and 20 students from different educational background of the respondents. The data consists of (1) the words and phrases in the texts: "Industries yield to labor power", "KPK Screens antigraft films" , "2 Days in New York" with the translaion, and (2) statements of sudents about the readability of the translation. The conclusions of this research are as follows: First, there are lexical addition in the forms of phrase in 12 sentences. Second there are lexical reduction in the forms of phrase in 33 sentences, Third, the level of readability of translation produced by Google-Translate is low (the highest are in 14 phrase, the lowest are in 39 phrase).
