Hubungan Social Support dengan Motivasi Pasien Kanker Payudara yang Menjalani Pengobatan di RSUP. H. Adam Malik Medan Tahun 2014

Abstract

Cancer is a group of diseases caused by the change from body cells to abnormal cells. The medication of breast cancer takes a long time, and it causes negative effect on patients, both physically and mentally. Patients' weak physical condition can cause them not to be able to continue the chemotherapy medication routinely and to do chemotherapy medication in one cycle. The objective of the research was to find out the correlation between social support and the motivation of breast cancer patients who were under the treatment in RSUP H. Adam Malik Medan, in 2014. The research used quantitative method with cross sectional design. The population was all breast cancer patients who were under the treatment in RSUP H. Adam Malik Medan, and 95 of them were used as the samples, taken by using accidental sampling technique. The result of the research showed that the majority of respondents (60.0%) were in good category in social support and 54.7% of them were in bad category in motivation to do medication. There was the correlation between family support and the motivation of breast cancer patients who were under the treatment. There was the correlation between the support from the other breast cancer patients and the motivation of breast cancer patients who were under the treatment. There was the correlation between community's support and the motivation of breast cancer patients who were under the treatment. There was the correlation between the support from health care providers and the motivation of breast cancer patients who were under the treatment. The variable which had the most dominant correlation with the motivation of breast cancer patients who were under the treatment was the variable of family support at p = 0.003 with OR = 4.749.It is recommended that the management of RSUP H. Adam Malik Medan, organize the mechanism of nurses' job so that it can be maximized in performing their duties and can give explanation well to breast cancer patients about their medication so that they will have motivation to do medication and can recover soon. It is also recommended that the management of the hospital create cancer survivor goup among breast cancer patients to share the experience and information so that it can motivate them to do medication.
