Perbandingan Kadar Prokalsitonin pada Sepsis Neonatorum dengan Penyebab Bakteri Gram Positif dan Gram Negatif di Unit Neonatologi Rumah Sakit Umum Pusat (RSUP) H Adam Malik Medan

Abstract

Backgrounds: Neonatal sepsis is difiicult to diagnose due to the unspecified clinical signs in neonatus. Procalcitonin examination frequently had ben performed before the blood culture result, however procalcitonin levels still could not be applied to distinguish between gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria sepsis. Objectives: to observe comparation of serum PCT level in neonatal sepsis caused by gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Methods: a retrospective study was conducted on March to May 2016 in Adam Malik hospital, Medan. Medical record data from January to December 2015 which is based.to ICD 10 classification for neonatal sepsis aged 0 -28 days old were collected and analyzed using Mann-Whitney test. Results: The total of eligible samples were 71 neonates with sepsis, 39 caused by gram-positive bacteria and 32 gram-negative bacteria, The differences of serum PCT level between gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria was statistically significant with mean 33 (Cl: 19.9045.54, P-value 0.001). Conclusion: There was significant difference of serum PCT level of neonatal with sepsis. Neonatal with sepsis due to gram-negative bacteria had higher PCT level compared to PCT level of gram-negative bacteria.
