| dc.description.abstract | Indonesia is endowed with rich natural potensial for development,
especially the plants some or them have the medical efficacy for degenerative
disease treatment such as diabetes mellitus. Virgin coconut oil (VCO) derivated
from coconut has been assumed to decrease the concentration of glucose in blood
with diabetes mellitus.
The study of VCO effect in various dosage on conentration of blood
glucose and body weight of rat with streptozotocin (STZ) induced diabetes
mellitus has been conducted. The method used was experimental method in
laboratory by randomized complete design. The data was analyzed by Anava
(Analysis of Varians) and continued with mean variance test of Dancan by using
the Statistical and Product Service Solution(SPSS)program.
The result of this research showed,2.0 ml/kg bw of VCO decrease the
concentration of blood glucose less than 4.0 ml/kg bw of VCO, where 8.0 ml/kg
bw of VCO the insignificant decrease in concentration of blood glucose with 1
mg/kg bw of glibenklamid.The observation of body weight of rat was also
conducted high dosage of VCO administered to rat showed the increasing of body
weight of mice.That result indicated that VCO was effective for decreasing blood
glucose concentration and increasing body weight in STZ induced diabetes
mellitus to rat.
