Preliminary studies, ethanol extract of Carica papaya L leaf which is given orally to
rats with carrageenan-induced foot exhibited anti-inflammatory effect. The polarity of Carica papaya L leaves with the anti-inflammatory effect is not known yet. Acute toxicity
studies to observe the toxicity of the chemical content of the compound of Carica papaya L leaves and the pharmacological profile of rats after administration of the test material. This
study aims to confirm the a anti-inflammatory activity and toxicity of methanol and n-hexane extracts of papaya using the experimental method in rats. Preparation of methanol and n-hexane
extracts of "pepaya semangka" varieties is by maceration. Phytochemical screening of papaya leaf extract showed present of flavonoids, alkaloids, and free steroid. The
inflammation was induced by 1 % carragenan solution using 36 rats which divided into 6 groups. Extract of methanol and n-hexane with the dose of 200, 400 mg/kg BW was
administered orally and the positive control (indomethacin) dose of l0 mg/kg BW and also control 1 % CMC were administered orally with a volume of 2 ml. lnhibition of
inflammation of the best (capable to inhibition of inflammation > 25%) occurred at five of the methanol extract dose of 400 mg/kg BW of 73.18% and n-hexane extract dose of 400 mg/kg BW of 65.79% and indomethacin dose of l0 mg/kg BW of 73.95%.
