| dc.description.abstract | Growth factor play an important role to induce bone remodeling in orthodontic tooth movement. TGF-β, is one of the growth factor that has been associated with bone remodeling in orthodontic tooth movement. It has 3 isoform, TGF-β1, TGF-β2, and TGF-β3. Overexpression of TGF-β2 in transgenic mice results an osteoporosis-like phenotype. Thus, the aim of this study was to determine the correlation of orthodontic tooth movement and changing level of TGF-β2 during early orthodontic tooth movement.
Fifteen samples who will receive orthodontic treatment were selected according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. Level of TGF-β2 was obtained from gingival crevicular fluid at just prior to separator placement, 48 hour, and 72 hour after separator placement. Rate of orthodontic tooth movement was observed by measuring interdental space between distal of upper second premolar and mesial first molar at 48 and 72 hour after separator placement.
Level of TGF-β2 increased significantly at 72 hour (p=0,003). Rate of orthodontic tooth movement and level of TGF-β2 showed negative correlation at 72 hour (r= -0,194; p=0,488). This increase might happen as balancing effect due to the decrease of other cytokine. Thus, it can be concluded that there is a role of TGF-β2 in orthodontic tooth movement. | en_US |
