Background
Monitoring of platelet counts 1 hour after transfusion has become standard practice in most centers.
In this study, we observed differentiating platelet counts between 10 and 60 minutes after platelet
transfusions. There was a close, linear relationship between these values over a wide range of
posttransfusion counts.
Materials and Methods :
This is a cross sectional study of patients admitted at the Adam Malik Hospital Medan between April
2014 to April 2015. Patients that accepted in inclusion criteria have checked platelets in the 10 and
60 minutes after platelets transfusions, data collected in tabulated and analyzed. Data analysis
applied Friedman test and Wilcoxon test.
Results:
Among 50 patients who got platelets transfusion, 26 Male and 24 female. Mean platelet before
transfusion 20,08 billion cell/mm3
• After 10 minute receiving platelet transfusion increasing in mean
platelet to be 43,08 billion cell/mm3 and after 60 minute is to be 45,1 billion cell/mm3, there is
differentiated of mean platelet to be 16,6 cell/mm3 ( p= 0,0001).
Conclusion :
There is significant differentiated between tne value of platelet after 10 minute and 60 minute after
platelet transfusion. Monitoring cf platelet counts in 60 minute is better than 10 minutes after
platelet transfusion.
