children and neonates. Clinical symptoms are varies and not specific on
neonatal so it is difficult to make the diagnosis of UTI in neonates. A study in
Iran in 2007 showed that the UTI is one very important thing on neonatal
jaundice. Therefore it is necessary to analyze and do urine cultures on all
neonates with jaundice.
Objective: To determine the association between UTI with clinical jaundice in
neonates.
Methods: A cross sectional study was conducted in Neonatology ward of Haji
Adam Malik Medan General Hospital, from January 2016 to April 2016. Sixty
six participants consisting 33 neonates with jaundice and the neonates
without jaundice. Urine culture was performed in all participants. Categorical
data was analyzed by using Fisher exact test. Significancy was set at P <
0,05.
Results: Of 66 participants, 6 have had positive urine culture (2 in neonates
with jaundice, and 4 in neonates without jaundice). Statistical analysis was
showed a nonsignificant association between variables ( P= 0.67 ). The most
frequent caused of UTI in neonates is Enterococcus spp.
Conclusion: There was no significant association between UTI with clinical
neonatal jaundice
