Background and Objectives : In general anesthesia for surgery that requires
control of breathing, requires neuromuscular block drugs that is needed for
intubation facilitation and anesthesia maintenance during surgery. The aim of
this study is to know the drug's onset of action and intubation condition
between Rocuronium Bromide 0. 6 mg/kgBW iv and Rocuronium Bromide 1
mg/kgBWiv.
Methods : After getting the approval from the ethic committee of USU
Medical school, 60 healthy samples were enrolled, men and women, age 17
to 60 yrs, physical state ASA I - II, who underwent elective surgery in Adam
Malik General Hospital. The sample was divided randomly into two groups
each with 30 subjects. All the subject received premedication with Pethidin 1
mglkgBW iv and Diazepam 0.1 mglkgBW iv 10 minutes before induction.
Group A received Rocuronium Bromide 0. 6 mg/kgBW iv and group B received
Rocuronium Bromide 1 mglkgBW iv. The result was measured based on the
drug's onset of action with a stopwatch until maximal block was achieved
measured with a TOF watch device, while the intubation condition were
evaluated by using Cooper score according to the intubator who had no
acknowledgement of the dosage of the drug.
Results : There is a significant difference on mean of onset of action between
Rocuronium Bromide 1 mglkgBWivgroup faster97.6 (SD 41.3) seconds
compared to Rocuronium Bromide 0. 6 mglkgBW iv group 143. 7 (SD 62. 5)
seconds, p va/ue=0.02 with Mann-Whitney U test. Mean intubation score
Rocuronium Bromide 1 mg/kgBWiv group 8.9 (SD 0.18) compared to
Rocuronium Bromide 0.6 mglkgBW iv group 8.2 (SD 1.3) significantly different
using Mann Whitney U test with p value =0. 002.
Conclusions : This study concluded that the drug's onset of action and
intubation facilitation with Rocuronium Bromide 1 mglkgBW iv is faster and
better compared with Rocuronium Bromide 0.6 mg/kgBW iv.
