dc.description.abstractBACKGROUND: Preeclampsia is a pregnancy-specific hypertensive syndrome associated with significant morbidity and mortality in mother and neonate due to complications. Method: All 518 consecutive women with severe preeclampsia at Haji Adam Malik General Hospital were assessed between January 2011 and December 2012. Parity, gestational age, type of delivery, common causes of cesarean section, birth weight and neonatal complications and mortality were included as study variables. RESULTS: Gestational age in severe preeclamptic women was 36,53 + 0,6 (weeks). The most common indication of cesarean section in severe preeclamptic women was eclampsia (4,S%). The most common delivery complication in severe preeclamptic women was blood transfusion (5,8%). Birth weight was statistically significantly lower in women with severe preeclampsia (p < o.001), and APGAR score was significantly lower in women with severe preeclampsia (p<0,001). CONCLUSION: Maternal and neonatal complications consisted of blood transfusion, Acute Kidney injury or renal failure, abruptio plancentae, postpartum haemorrhagic, plmonary edema, neurologic complications, and fetal demise were more common in severe preeclamptic women. Low birth weight and APGAR score for the first and the fifth minute in women with severe preeclampsia.en_US
