The Description of The Meaning of Ulos Saput In Death Ceremony of Batak Toba

Abstract

This paper describes the meaning of Ulos Saput which is used in the traditional Batak Toba death ceremony. The writer aim of this paper is to find and describe the meaning of Ulos Saput which is used at the death ceremony of the Toba Batak custom. The writer uses a qualitative descriptive method with interview techniques to people who understand and use to read related to the meaning of Ulos Saput in the traditional Batak Toba death ceremony. The result of describing the meaning of Ulos Saput is that Ulos Saput has social, affective and conceptual meanings. The several types of meaning of Ulos Saput, the writer found that the most conceptual meaning is contained in Ulos Saput. The conclusion is the Ulos Saput in the traditional Batak Toba death ceremony is a symbol of love, prayer, protection, warmth and a traditional symbol of the Toba Batak tribe.
