Background: The low level of selenium blood serum suspicious could lead
oxidative stress in the body. The low Selenium state could be as predictor of
preeclampsia
Objective: To know the role of Selenium blood serum in pathogenesis of
preeclampsia.
Method: This is an analytic cross-sectional study with case-control design.
There is 35 patient with preeclampsia who has the low level of selenium
blood serum. Then the data of this study was tabled and presented in
distribution-frequency table and then analyzed.
Result: ln this study found that there is differentiation of charactheristic of
third trimester pregnancy woman preeclampsia and normotency according to
age, the number of child, gestational age, body mass index, Selenium serum level, and selenium intake. The charactheristics of third trimester
preeclampsia woman are 20-35 years old (BS%), nulliparity with primigravide
(57,5%), obesity (40%), aterm pregnancy (92,5%) and inadequate (low)
selenium intake (77,5%)
Conclusion: There is low selenium serum level in preeclampsia. The low
level of selenium blood serum can be as predictor of preeclampsia.
