dc.description.abstract | The strength of material is afected by the mechanical and physical characteristics of material. The joining process of material in the welding application will change characteristics of material because of heating processes. The study consists of four parts. Firstly, the tensile strenght of specimen were measured for welding groove of 700, 800, and 900. Secondly, the suitable arc current for material made of Al-Mg 5083 is arraaged. Thirdly, the welding defects resulted during welding process were observed. Finally the macro structure of metal after tensile test is investigated. From the four stages of experiment, the effect of groove (the angle) and the arc current on the strength of welding under TIG is studied. The results of experiment with the arc current of 100A, 125A and 150A show that the arc current of 100 A with groove angle of 900 produces a good result with average tensile strength of 135,04 MPa compared to tensile strength result of groove angles 800 and 700 which is 96,82 MPa and 78,85 MPa. The welding test using TIG for Al-Mg 5083 alloy, shows that the effect of arc current was significant on the strength of welding. The results also prove that the arc current of 100A produces tensile strength higher than 125A and 150A in general. The existence of macro – structure at each arc current and groove angle have the same granular form, and it is clearly observed at the middle and the edge of Al-Mg 5083 cracked sample resulted by tensile test with 50 magnitude optical microscope. | en_US |
