lntroduction: Menopause is a physiological situation caused by the aging
of the ovaries that lead to decreased production of estrogen and
progesterone produced from ovaries. The cessation of the menstrual cycle
is perceived as a loss of core properties feminine because unable to give
birth anymore. Further effect is the emergence feelings of worthlessness,
useless in life and there comes a sense of worried about the possibility that
all the loved people would turned and left. Those feelings are frequently felt
by women in menopause period and then often lead to anxiety.
Objective: To determine the correlation between estrogen levels and
characteristics of postmenopausal women with degrees of anxiety based on
hamilton anxiety rating scale (HAM-A).
Methods; This study is an alaytic study with cross sectional design in
postmenopausal women. Subjects are asked to fill out the Hamilton Anxiety
Rating Scale (HAM-A) questionnaires. For the examination of estrogen
levels, 5 cc venous blood were taken and examined in the Prodia Clinic
laboratory. Data were tabulated and presented in a frequency distribution
table. To analyze the correlation between variables, Pearson correlation
statistic test were used when the data normally distributed based on
Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, and Spearman correlation statistic test were
used when the data were not normally distributed.
Results: A total of 48 post menopausal women participated in the study.
Correlation between age and estrogen levels was -O.47 and significant (p
<0.05), which shows the moderate strength of negative correlation.
Correlation between estrogen levels and degree of anxiety shows a strong
positive correlation (r = 0.62). There is difference in the degree of anxiety
with the duration of menopause (p <0.05). There is no difference in the
degree of anxiety with the level of education (p> 0.05).
Conclusion: The lower estrogen levels in postrnenopausal woman,
diminishing the degree of anxiety.
