ASI (exclusive breast milk) is breastfeeding without giving supplementary food so
that the nutrition will help the baby grow and develop well. A country is called an
advanced country when it has low infant death rate and good health standard
Breastfeeding with exclusive ASI is important since it is needed by a 0-6 month- old
baby to curb infant death rate. The objective of the research is to find out the
correlation of family income. health care providers’ support, and women's
knowledge with breastfeeding with exclusive ASI. The research employs
observational quantitative method with cross sectional design, The samples
consists of 173 women with 6-8 year-old babies and are analyzed by using
univariate analysis, bivariate analysis with chi square test, and multivariate
analysis with multiple logistic regression analysis. The result of the research shows
that there is the correlation of family income (p=0.005) and women's knowledge
(p=0.0001) with breastfeeding with exclusive ASI, but there is no correlation
between health care providers' support and breastfeeding with exclusive ASI
(p=0.410). The result of multiple logistic regression analysis shows that women's
knowledge has the most dominant correlation with breastfeeding with exclusive ASI
at Exp (β)=5.778. It is recommended that the health care providers provide
counseling seriously about how to breastfeed with exclusive ASI which is done from
pregnancy until childbirth in order to increase women's knowledge of exclusive ASI
and to motivate them to behave more properly in breastfeeding with exclusive ASI
and to increase the coverage of breastfeeding with exclusive ASI in Indragiri Hulu
Regency.
