This research is a quantitative descriptive study on mutual trust between Nias and non-Nias student groups within the campus of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, University of North Sumatra. As an overseas student from Nias, you are required to be able to adapt. Difficulties in adapting tend to create mutual suspicion and mutual distrust between each other so that there is social distance that separates and results in poor social relations. The purpose of this study was to find out how mutual trust is between Nias and non-Nias student groups and to find out the factors driving the emergence of mutual trust between Nias and non-Nias students in the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, University of North Sumatra. This research uses quantitative methods. Respondents in this study were students of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, University of North Sumatra who are still actively studying. The sample selection was carried out using a non-probability technique based on purposive sampling, namely, determining the number of samples with certain considerations. The number of samples in this research is 100 respondents. The results of this study indicate that mutual trust between Nias and non-Nias student groups in the campus environment is positive. Nias and non-Nias students maintain mutual trust, interact with each other, respect each other, tolerate each other, care for each other, help each other and are able to build good social relations regardless of differences in ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds and, longer time to associate with different ethnic groups social distance will be getting smaller.
