This research was aimed to know the effect of methanol and NaOH on the
rendement and quality jatropha oil as the substitution of the diesel fuel . The
research had been performed using factorial completely randomized design
(CDR) with two factors, i.e. methanol (L) : (10, 15, 20, 25 %) and NaOH (S):
(0.5, 0.1, 1.5, 2.0 %). Parameters analyzed were rendement, moisture content,
free fatty acid content, peroxide number, and viskosity.
The result showed that the methanol had highly signficant effect on the
rendement that resulted, free fatty acid content, peroxide number, and viscosity,
but did not showed a significant effect on moisture content. NaOH had highly
significant effect on the rendement, moisture content, free fatty acid content,
peroxide number, and viskosity. The combination of the methanol and NaOH had
highly signficant effect on the rendement, but did not showed a significant effect
on moisture content, free fatty acid content, peroxide number, and viscosity.
Methanol 25 % and NaOH 2 % a give the best and acceptable quality biodiesel
as the substitution of the diesel fuel.
