Strategi Pemberantasan Penyakit Demam Berdarah Dengue di Kota Medan Melalui Studi Banding dengan Pulau Pinang Malaysia Tahun 2004

Abstract

Dengue Haemorragic Fever (DHF) is a contagious desease which is caused by Dengue virus and spread by Aedes Aegepty mosquitos, especially attacks children with the sympthom are a sudden high fever along with haemorrhage manifestation and tends to cause shock and death (mortality), The DHF incidence rate in Medan city within last six years tends to increase gradually, while penang Island shows the decreased- The objective of this research is to examine the DHF controlling strategy in Medan. This is an evaluative research with qualitative approach, to study the DHF controlling program in Medan comparing with the Malaysian government especially in Penang Island by using both primary and secondary data. The results (of this research) shows that Medan city has not special laws and policies to regulate the DHF controlling strategy an unwell organized program. The number of program officers and equipments are limited, the budget alocation mostly based to curative and case surveilance has not programmed well, the laboratory examination has not been undertaken to suspect, mosquitos and larvas control has not been undertaken regularly, case management were not optimal and vectors management held only when the case is found, and mapping data is not good. This is a different situation compared to penang island where the DFIF controlling strategy has been supported by laws and policies included the punishments This research concludes that the DHF controlling program has not been run properly in Medan. It is caused by the support of government's laws and policies has not fully.
