Sugarcane is one of comodity that produce sugar. Today, the decreasing of
sugarcane productivity become problem for sugar industry. The decrease is due to some
factors, one of them was land suitability. Land suitability has relation with productivity.
PT.Perkebunan Nusantara II was the biggest sugar company in Sumatera Utara. But her
product has been decreased seriously for few years. Sugarcane must be planted in
suitable land with good condition for optimal production. Therefore, land suitability
must be reviewed in PT.Perkebunan Nusantara II. Research had been conducted in June
to September 2010. This research was using matching method where observed
characteristics value were ploted on suitability land of sugarcane classes then a smallest
class value of land suitability was decided. Parameters measured were temperature,
rainfall, relative humidity, sunshine, drainage, texture, coarse material, soil depth, cation
exchange capacity of clay, base saturation, pH (H2O), C-organic, salinity, alkalinity,
slope, erosion hazard, pool, rock on surface, and rock outcrop.
Results showed that land of sugarcane at Kebun Helvetia was included in S3
class (not suitable) where drainage system, base saturation, and sunshine became
inhibitor characteristics, that had S3, S2, and S3 classes respectively
