Objective:
To analyze differences in urinary HE4 levels in women with benign and
malignant epithelial ovarian tumors.
Method:
This study is a comparative analytic study with case control design on 40 subjects
with epithelial ovarian tumors at Haji Adam Malik Hospital Medan in March to
May 2018. Subjects were selected by consecutive sampling and samples obtained
from the patient's urine and urine HE4 levels measured by ELISA. Data were
analyzed using descriptive statistics and Mann-Whitney test. A p-value less than
0.05 is applied to each statistical test as significant.
Result:
The majority of malignant epithelial ovarian tumors subjects aged over 50 years,
have had >_ 1 children with the most histopathologic type is adenocarcinoma
serosum whereas most of benign ovarian epithelial tumors subjects aged 20-50
years, have had >_1 children with the most histopathologic type is endometrial
cyst. There are increase in mean urinary HE4 levels accordance to ovarian cancer
stage, the higher the stage of ovarian cancer, the higher the median of urinary HE4
levels. The mean urinary HE4 levels of malignant epithelial ovarian tumor is
higher than benign epithelial ovarian tumor, and found statistically significant.
Conclusion:
There was a significant difference in urinary HE4 levels between patients with
benign and malignant epithelial ovarian tumors in which urinary HE4 levels of
subjects with malignant epithelial ovarian tumors were higher.
