Y SANTOSO : Hole density Test of Basket of Centrifugal drainer, superrvised by ACHWIL PUTRA MUNIR and SAIPUL BAHRI DAULAY Fruit chips is one of agricultural commodity processing results and also an attempt to extend the shelf-life of the commodity. Therefore, every process in the processing must be optimal, especially in the draining process. The purpose of this research was to test the hole density of basket on centrifugal drainer to see the quality of chips produced. The research was conducted from July to September 2014 in the Laboratory of Agricultural Engineering, Agricultural Faculty, USU using a non factorial completely randomized design on basket with density of 4 mesh, 16 mesh, 25 mesh, 36 mesh, and 49 mesh. Parameters measured were effective capacity of the drainer, the amount of oil that was drained, and the percentage of defects in draining banana chips. The results showed that the hole density had highly significant effect on the three parameters. The best type of basket density was KK3 ( 25 mesh ) with the effective capacity of 9.6333 kg/h, the amount of the drained oil was 3.6667 % , and the percentage of defects was 9.6667 %.en_US
