The aim of this research was to find the effect of young areca fruit diameter and
distance of upper and under knifs quality of peeled product. The research had been
performed using completely randomized design with two factors i-e : diameter of areca
fruit (D1= <3,50 cm ; D2 = 3,50 – 3,60 cm; D3 = <3,60 – 3,70; D4 = <3,70 cm) and the
distance of upper and under knifes (P1 = 1,5 cm; P2 = 1,7 cm; D3 = 1,9 cm; P4 = 2,1 cm).
Parameters analyzed were machine capacity , percentage of peeled fruit, percentage of
nut on the peel, percentage of loosed nut percentage of fruit unpeeled, percentage of
intact nut, percentage of defect areca nut.
The result showed that the fruit diameter had significant effect on all parameters
except the percentages of deffect nut and intact nut . The distance of upper and under
knifes had highly significant effect on all parameters except percentage of nut on the peel,
percentage of loosed nut which were significantly diffect. The interaction of diameter of
young areca fruit anf distance of upper and under knifes had highly significant effect on
all parameters except machine capacity which were significantly diffect.
The best result for young areca fruit diameters was on D4 = (> 3,70 cm) and the
distance between upper and under knifes J3 = (1,9 cm).
