dc.description.abstractHospital is one of the health facilities in carrying out the activities of health service as well as an institution providing a complex service whose human resources need to be professionally managed. One of the health service providers in a hospital is a nurse. In a hospital, a nurse will do a nursing practice in the form of nursing service known a nursmg care. This quantitative descriptive study is designed to analyze the influence of work load on the effectiveness of the nurses assigned in the In-patient Installation (Ward) of Dr.Pimgadi General Hospital, Medan. The population of this study is all (80 persons) of the nurses with status of civil servants (PNS) assigned in the In- patient Installation (Ward) of Dr. Pimgadi General Hospital, Medan. The samples for this study were selected through the Purposive Sampling Technique. The data obtained were analyzed by means of the Multiple Linear Regression and Fcount Test. The result of this study reveals that working time (0.001 <0.05) and the quantity of main activity (0.003<0.05) have a positive and significant influence on the work effectiveness of the nurses on-duty while the standard of work load (0.196>0.05) and standard of mitigation (0.156<0.05) have a positive influence but not significant. Statistically, a significant influence (p value = 0.00000 < 0.05) is found out between work Statiscally, a significany influence (p.value = 0.0000 < 0.05) is found between work load consisting of working time, standard of work load, standard of mitigation and standard of main activity on work effectiveness of the nurses in Dr. Pimgadi General Hospital Medan. The conculsion of this study that work load has ana influence on the work effectiveness of the nurse on-duty in the In-patient Installation (Ward) . Work load based on working time and standard of main activity has been effective and appropriate to the standard and guide of the nursing care implementation. The standard of mitigation and work load have not been effective and less appropriate to the standard and guide of the nursing care implementation established by the Departement of Nursing ofDr.Pimgadi General Hospital. It is suggested that job description of the nurses on-duty must be clear for each the in-patient ward and subject to the standard and guide of the nursing care implementation established by the departement of nursing of Dr. Pimgadi General Hospital, Medan.en_US
