Tutuhao is one of the traditional musical instrument originating from the culture of Nias, North Sumatra. This instrument belongs of the classification of the type of idiochordophone musical instrument, made of bamboo which has a certain type/does not use any bamboo. The type of bamboo used is Kauko, because kauko has a rather long segment. Tutuhao consists of three strings made directly from bamboo bark that can produce three tones, namely, gong (aramba), canang (faritia) and drum (göndra), played by being hit with a stick made of bamboo. Tutuhao is played as a solo instrument, to accompany Nias traditional parties, such as weddings and several other traditional parties. In this day and age, tutuhao is played in ensembles along with other Nias musical intruments, and tutuhao is no longer played at Nias traditional parties, but is only used during cultural performances, art festivals, and can also played at certain other events. This study aims to determine the technique of making and playing the tutuhao musical instrument by Mr. Herman Giawa. The theory that the author uses is the theory of Khasima Shusumu, namely by describing the tutuhao musical instrument, and using the theory proposed by Curt Sach and Hornbostel, namely the classification of the tutuhao musical instrument. The method used bye the author is a field research method with qualitative method approach as well as cinducting a literature study, namely reading books, then field studies, namely observation, interviews, research recording, and data analysis (des work). The results of this study are a description of the technique of making and playing a good tutuhao game, in order to maintain its sustainability by the whole community so that its existence does not become extincten_US
