dc.description.abstract | The visually impaired are people with disabilities who experience difficulties
in living their lives due to the less positive view of society towards them. Not
infrequently they are underestimated by society, even family, to themselves.
Visually impaired people are often seen as helpless, unable to stand alone, and
always willing to be helped. The attention given to blind people is not only from
the government, but also from private institutions. Panti Karya Hephata is one of
the literary institutions that has been providing services for the visually impaired
for almost 100 years. The vision of Panti Karya Hephata is the realization of
disabled people who are holistically empowered, independent, and inclusive. It is
because of this vision that Panti Karya Hephata not only takes care of the visually
impaired but also tries to make them work. The purpose of this study was to
determine the social welfare efforts carried out by Panti Karya Hephata for
visually impaired persons in Panti Karya Hephata. This type of research is a
qualitative descriptive study consisting of 3 types of informants, namely key
informants, main informants, and additional informants. Data collection
techniques were carried out by collecting primary data using in-depth interviews
and observations, and secondary data collection through other sources that were
available before the study. The collected data is then processed to produce a
conclusion. From the research that has been carried out, the social welfare efforts
carried out by the Panti Karya Hephata for the visually impaired consist of 4
main programs, namely the self-development program which is carried out to
make the visually impaired at Panti Karya Hephata able to carry out their
activities independently, the formal education program for elementary to high
school levels carried out at the Special School ABCD which is located in the Panti
Karya Hephata complex, a community development program carried out to
develop the talents of the visually impaired such as singing and cooking, and a
mental-spiritual program through religious activities that must be followed by all
foster children and Panti Karya Hephata staff. | en_US |
