Primary Productivity is the formation process of organic compounds
through photosynthesis. This research aimed to know primary productivity based
on the concentration of chlorophyll-a, phytoplankton identification and it’s
abundance at the estuarine of Kecamatan Talawi Kabupaten Batu Bara. The
identification of phytoplankton is known by an observation using Sedgewick
Rafter. The water sampling is conducted three times in two weeks interval during
April until Mei 2014. The location determination used the Purposive Sampling
method and the water sampling used Space Composite Sampling method for
chlorophyll-a, phytoplankton, salinity, total suspended solid, nitrate and
phosphate. From the research results there are 5 class of phytoplankton were 17
families and 25 species. Most of phytoplankton are contain in Bacillariophyceae.
The highest species abundance is 1073,889 ind/l found at station 3, and the
species that have the highest abundance is Skeletonema sp. The highest
chlorophyll-a value is 0,89 mg/m3 at station 3.
