SRI AMELIA SUSAN GINTING: Review of tertiary irrigation canals in the Sei
Beras Sekata village Sei Krio Sunggal, Deli Serdang district, supervised by
SUMONO and AINUN ROHANAH.
In the distribution of irrigation water through a land tertiary canal, there
can be a great loss of water, sedimentation and channel scoured if not well
designed. This study was aimed to assess, calculate the water loss and it’s
efficiency as well as designing a good channel dimensions of tertiary canals to
prevent scour and deposition at 2 tertiary canals in the Sei Beras Sekata village
Sei Krio Sunggal, Deli Serdang district.
The results showed that deposition occurred in both tertiary canals. Water
losses at the same distance (30 m) in channel 1 was 3110,4 mm/day with
evapotranspiration of 2,45 mm/day, percolation of 32,50 mm/day and seepage of
3075,56 mm/hari, while channel 2 was 345,60 mm/day with evapotranspiration of
2,38 mm/day, percolation of 11,33 mm/day and seepage of 331,89 mm/hari.
Efficiency at the same distance in the channel 1 was 79,42 % and channel 2 was
91,72 %.The best tertiary channel dimensions for channel 1 was a combination
0,02% slope, assuming that a base width of the channel was 2 times the depth of
water (B=2D), where the channel width (B) was 0,62 m and the depth of water
(D) was 0,31 m and for channel 2 was a combination 0,02% slope, assuming a
base width of the channel was 2 times the depth of water (B=2D), where the
channel width (B) was 0,58 m and the depth of water (D) was 0,29 m
