Binahong leaves are one of natural product to be used to treat the disease
of living organisme due to having secondary metabolite to show antibacterial
activity. The purpose of this research was to study secondary metabolite of
Binahong leaves of which showing antibacterial, to analysis effectivity of
antibacterial Binahong leaves extract to inhibit growth of bacteria Aeromonas
hydrophila.
An experimental laboratory with six treatments and three replications for
in vitro was tested. A paper disc soaked in a solution of Binahong leaves extract
was used for in vitro at a concentration of 0% (w/v); 0,2%; 0,4%; 0,6%; 0,8%;
positive control (Oxytetracycline), then placed on a Tryptose Soya Agar (TSA)
medium containing bacteria A. hydrophila and then incubated at 37oC for 24
hours.
In vitro test showed that Binahong leaves extract inhibited the growth of
bacteria A. hydrophila with a inhibition area around the paper disc. The increase
concentration of Binahong leaves extract enhanced the growth inhibition area.
Phytochemical screening of Binahong leaves extract showed that the extracts
contained flavonoid, phenol, saponin, alkaloid, triterpenoid and β-sitosterol.
