Introduction: Menopausal symptoms can greatly affect a woman's personal, social and work life. Selenium functions as a cofactor for glutathione peroxidase and helps minimize oxidative damage through cellular metabolism in postmenopausal women when estradiol production decreases, antioxidant protection is lost and therefore oxidative stress is increased. Objective: To determine whether there is an effect of administration selenium on various kinds of menopausal complaints based on the Menopause-Specific Quality of Life Questionnaire (MENQOL). Methods: This study is an analytical study with a quasi-experimental pretest posttest one group only design. The study was conducted on all postmenopausal women in Medan who were more than 51 years old and met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The research subjects underwent blood tests to assess serum selenium levels. Menopausal symptom data were obtained through filling out the MENQOL questionnaire. Data were analyzed by paired t test, Wilcoxon test, chi square test and correlation test. Results: There were 25 postmenopausal women in Medan who were more than or equal to 51 years old, most of whom were 51-60 years old (76%), had low education, i.e. graduated from elementary and junior high school (56%), overweight (56%) and had menopause for more than 5 years (52%). There was a significant difference in MENQOL complaints before and after selenium administration only in muscle and joint pain complaints (p=0.023). There was a significant difference in selenium levels between before and after selenium administration (p=0.000). However, there was no significant relationship between selenium levels and MENQOL scores both before and after selenium administration (p>0.05). Conclusion: There is no effect of selenium administration with menopausal complaints based on MENQOLen_US
