Goldfish is the most desirable ornamental. The market demand required intensive cultivation. Intensive cultivation can be done by optimizing stocking density. This study aims to determine the effect of stocking density on survival and growth rate of goldfish (Carrasius auratus) as well as to determine the maximum stocking density goldfish with an average length 4.16 cm and average weight 1.84 grams. Goldfish are used as much as 216 tails. The study was conducted at the Aquaculture Hatchery of Medan Marine and Agriculture Department in April - May 2014. Maintenance containers used are 9 aquariums size 40 cm x 20 cm x 20 cm with 12 liters volume of water per aquarium, which is arranged in a recirculation system and is equipped with a tub filters and tubular tank. Parameters were observed during 40 days of observation are: survival, growth rate of weight daily and growth rate of long daily. During the study, the fish were fed in the form of artificial feed for ornamental fish are given as much as 5% of body weight per day. Frequency of feeding 3 times a day is at 09:00, 13:00, 17:00. The experimental design used was Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with three treatments is stocking density 1 tail / liter (P1), 2 tail / liter (P2), and 3 tails / liter (P3) and repeated 3 times. Treatment P1 shows the growth rate of weight daily and length growth rate that equal to the best daily is 2.7597% and 0.8714%. Treatment P3 showed weight daily indicates the growth rate and the growth rate that equal to the lowest length daily is 1.5877% and 0.4370%. Stocking density significantly affect the growth rate of the long and weight growth rate daily but did not significantly affect survival. Tuckey further test results indicate treatments P3 is significantly different from P1.en_US
