This research aims to determine the ratio of the dominant fish catches caught in surface gill net and bottom gill net and analyze the composition, diversity, dominance, and size. This study was conducted in April-May 2013 in the coastal in the Strait of Malacca of Sei Nagalawan Serdang Bedagai. On the basis of the composition of gill nets there are 17 species and 15 species of surface gill nets. Dominance index values both higher gear is C = 1. The value of diversity index ranged from 1.57 to 1.98, it means that the diversity of fishery in the waters of Sei Nagalawan is moderately. Some dominant species belong to the size of a decent catch, especially the fish caught by bottom gill net, whereas fishes on the surface gill nets only about 66 to 85% which is well worth catching. There are differences in basic gill net catches and gill net surface with independent statistical test sample T test, that the bottom gill net catches were significantly different and larger than the surface gill net catches.en_US
