dc.description.abstractFUAD NUGRAHA LUBIS : The Engineering of Essential Oil Steam Distiller, supervised by AINUN ROHANAH and ACHWIL PUTRA MUNIR. Essential oil is oil that can be used as a raw material in medicine, cosmetics, parfumes, etc. One of them is the patchouli oil, one of the few sources of essential oil that most greatly contributed to Indonesian foreign exchange. Therefore, patchouli distillation has a bright prospect. This research was aimed to design, build, and test the essential oil distillation equipment, conducted in September 2009 to January 2010 at the Laboratory of Agricultural Engineering, Faculty of Agriculture, University of North Sumatera, Medan, by literture study, experiment, observation, and testing of the equipment. The parameters observed were the effective capacity and yield of the equipment. The result of the research showed that the effective capacity of the equipment was 10.13 ml/hr with 1.55% yield.en_US
