The increasing of population in the coastal area affects in exploitation of
ground water too. Shallow well one of the media be used to fulfill the needs of
water. The location of ground water that closed to coastal area, caused the sea
water intrution and then shallow well water changed into salty and brackish. The
aim of this research is to analyze the salinity containing in shallow well water and
to know the overview of distribution of salinity on the shallow well water. This
research was done in Denai Kuala village district of Pantai Labu, Deli Serdang on
Mei-June 2015. The sample in shallow well was taken randomly so can be got 80
samples of shallow well water spread in four hamlets. This research uses the
software Arc GIS 9.3 to obtain a map of the spread of salinity. The results showed
that the salinity of the shallow well water in the Denai Kuala village varied.
Number of shallow wells at hamlet 1 is 0 mg/l ( category fresh water), at hamlet 2
is 3200 mg/l ( category brackish water), at hamlet 3 is 0 mg/l (category fresh
water), and at hamlet 4 is 1400 mg/l (category brackish water). The map of the
spread salinity show the biggest of sea water intrusion on the hamlet 2 and hamlet
