| dc.description.abstract | The World Health Organization (WHO) predicts that about 5. 7 million people
all over the world die because of stroke, along with death caused by heart disease
and cancer. Range of Motion (ROM) action is one of the method<; which can improve
extreme muscle strength in stroke patients done by the families. The objective of the
research was to find out the irifluence of family participation in ROM action on
extreme muscle strength in stroke patients.
The research was queasy experiment with static group comparison posttest
only control group design. It was conducted at RSUD dr. Pirngadi, Medan, and in the
stroke patient's home. The population was 162 patients, and 36 of them were used as
the samples (] 8 of them in the intervention group and the other 18 of them in the
control group), taken by using consecutive sampling technique. The data were
analyzed by using univariate analysis and bivariate analysis with independent sample
I-test.
The result of the research showed that there was significant irifluence of ROM
action on the extreme muscle strength in stroke patients at RSUD dr. Pirngadi,
Medan. The difference of the improvement in the extreme muscle strength in the
intervention group from that in the control grup in shoulder was 0.000<0.05, in
elbow was .000<0.05, in wrist was .000<0.05, and in forearm was .000<0.05. Family
role in ROM action was very important in improving extreme muscle strength in
stroke patients treated in the homes.
It is recommended that the health care providers of RSUD dr. Pirngadi,
Medan, especially the physiotherapist, always give information through leaflets and
train the stroke patients and their family members to do ROM for being practiced at
homes after the patients come out of the hospital. | en_US |
