Studi Pembuatan Biodiesel dari Minyak Jelantah

Abstract

This research was aimed to know the effect of 97 % sulphuric acid and sodium methanolate on the rendement and quality of wasted frying oil as a substitute for diesel fuel. The research had been performed using factorial completely randomized design (CRD) with two factors, i.e. concentration of sulphuric acid (K) : (1, 2, 3, 4 %) and concentration of sodium methanolate (L) : (7.5, 15, 22.5, 30 %). Parameters analyzed were rendement, moisture content, free fatty acid, peroxide number and viscosity. The result showed that sulphuric acid concentration had highly significant effect on the rendement, free fatty acid, peroxide number and viscosity, but did not show significant effect on moisture content. The sodium methanolate concentration had highly significant effect on the rendement, free fatty acid, and viscosity, but did not show significant effect on moisture content and peroxide number. The interaction of 97 % sulphuric acid and sodium methanolate concentration had highly significant effect on the rendement but did not show significant effects on moisture content, free fatty acid, peroxide number and viscosity. 3 % sulphuric acid and sodium methanolate 30 % gave the best and acceptable quality of biodiesel as a subtitute for diesel fuel.
