dc.description.abstract | Chlorophyll-a is one of the parameters indicators of fertility levels in a
body of water. Kelapa Gading Lake is an artificial lake located in Asahan used by
surrounding communities for fishing activities as well as tourist attraction. This
study aimed to determine the abundance of phytoplankton,analyze the
concentration of chlorophyll-a and water fertility in the Kelapa Gading lake. The
experiment was conducted in February - April 2016 in the waters of Kelapa
Gading Lake in Kisaran Naga Kisaran Timur District Asahan Regency of North
Sumatra province. The method used in determining the location is purposive
sampling. The measured parameters namely chemical-physical factors such as
temperature, pH, brightness, light intensity, DO, nitrate, phosphate, and
chlorophyll-a. analysis of correlation used to see the relationship between the
parameters of the water with the content of chlorophyll-a. Results of research
conducted in Kelapa Gading Lake in KIsaran Naga Asahan gained as much as 19
genus of phytoplankton which consists of four classes of phytoplankton that is
Bacillariophyceae, Chlorophyceae, Cyanophyceae, Coscinodiscophyceace. The
average value of chlorophyll-a in the waters of Kelapa Gading Lake amounted to
0.630 mg / m3. Lake fertility rates value have been classified as oligotrophic that
