The Description of Songgot-Songgot Tradition in Batak Toba Culture
Abstract
The purpose of this research is to describe the meaning of songgot-songgot tradition, the procedures and kinds of food served in the songgot-songgot tradition. The data of this research is a form of the tradition of the Toba Batak people. Society is one of the most important components of culture. Culture is one of the most important and greatest elements in human life with a way of life that is developed and shared by a group of people and passed down from generation to generation. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The research data was taken from books, internet, interview by pass, and the Batak Toba cultural community. The results of this research, the songgot-songgot-songgot tradition which is a Batak traditional ceremony that aims to return tondi (soul) to the body or in Toba Batak language can also be called mangupa, and asks for blessings from God Almighty so that it is always safe, healthy, and cheap in life. Procedures in the songgot-songgot tradition, namely, sprinkle rice on head, parents giving dekke nai arsik (arsik fish), Hula-hula or wife-giver giving indahan las, Hula-hula or wife-giver giving dekke nai arsik (arsik fish), Giving mual natio, Mangulosi badan with ulos habonaran, Tangiang (Pray), Serve food, Pray before eating, Mandok hata sian suhut, Mandok hata sian hula-hula, Mangampu sian jolma na naung dipasupasu, Closing pray and The kind of food is delivered in Songgot-Songgot tradition is Dekke nai arsik (Arsik fish). This tradition is carried out in a unique way, namely without telling the person who is blessed if this tradition is carried out. The conclusion of this discussion is the Songgot-Songgot Tradition in Batak Toba culture is a form of tradition in returning the tondi (soul) to the body or restoring the spirit carried out by the family to family members who are affected by the disaster and ask for blessings from God Almighty so that it is always safe, healthy.
