dc.description.abstractNOVITA ARIANI SITORUS : The Estimate of Carbon Stocks Above Ground Biomass at Green Open Space in Medan City. Under the supervision of RAHMAWATY and ABDUL RAUF. Global warming is the main environmental problems of this millennium. Carbon dioxide (CO2) is the main cause for global warming. Green open space such as urban forest and urban park play a role in mitigating global warming in urban areas because the vegetation that is capable to absorb CO2 from the atmosphere through photosynthesis. So its need to calculating carbon stock at urban forests and urban parks at Medan City. The purpose of this research is to know what kinds of plant that planting and how much carbon stock, as well as map the distribution of plant at green open space Medan City. The research was conducted since January until May 2013. The research was conducted at Urban Forest Taman Beringin, Sports Park and Recreation Gadjah Mada, and Urban Park Ahmad Yani. The sample of green open space had taken by non destructive sampling method, the introduction of plants species and measurements had taken by census method, and the method of carbon stock data counting was using non destructive sampling, namely the model allometric. The results showed that there are 44 species of trees and 5 groups of non tree species. Value of the highest carbon stocks contained in Urban Forest Taman Beringin is 104,21975 Ton/Ha. Value of the carbon stock in Urban Park Ahmad Yani and Sports Park and Recreation Gadjah Mada is 61,48555 Ton/Ha and 30,38908 Ton/Ha. Urban Park Ahmad Yani design is spread out and has a stratified structure of the two, while The Sports Park and Recreation Gadjah Mada and Urban Park Ahmad Yani design is shaped spread.en_US
