Water is a natural resource that supplies the needs of life many people so it
needs to be protected in order to be useful for life and human life and other living
organisms. Nowadays a very rapid process of industrialization followed by a very
rapid population growth. The situation had a negative impact on the quality and
the existenceof natural resourcesand the environment. One of several is a heavy
metal pollution. This research aims to analyze the content of Pb and Cu in the
middle and lower Deli watershed and to determine the Deli water quality based
on water quality standards.
This study was done on July until August 2013 at Deli watershed of North
Sumatra province. The number of point observed station are 4 stations . The
parameters that measured were aquatic physical and chemical, concentrations of
heavy metals lead and copper in the water column by Atomic Absorption
Spectrophotometry using ( AAS ) .
The results showed lead concentrations of heavy metals ranged from
0.079- 0.408 mg/L , and the concentration of heavy metals copper ranged 0.19 to
0.589 mg /L . This result shows that heavy metal of lead and copper in Deli
watershed has exceeded the quality standard.
