dc.description.abstract | The objective of this study was to obtain the proportion of Simian line, fingerprints
patterns and the total ridge count in the mentally retarded and the normal group. The
study had been done in Yayasan Pembinaan Anak Cacat (\"AC), Sekolah Dasar Islam
Terpadu (SDIT) Nurul Ilmi and SDIT Al-Hijrah II in Medan at Desember 2005. The
number of participants in this study was 223 person- They consisted of35 females and
58 males tom the mentally retarded group and 55 females and 75 males from the normal
group. The method used in this study was case control study with observed variables
were the Simian line, the fingerprints patterns (whorl, ulnar loop, radial loop and arch)
and the total ridge count.
The result of this research showed that the proportion of Simian line in the mentally
retarded group (14%) was higher than the normal group (8%), but Chi-Square test was
not significant at p: 0,05. The fingerprints patterns on both groups were equal, but the
proportion was not, with the highest proportion started from ulnar loop, whorl, radial
loop and arch, with Chi-Square test was significant at p = 0,05, Dankmeijer value index
in the mentally retarded group (9. l2) was higher than the normal group (0.39). Furuhata
value index in the mentally retarded group (48.92) was lower than the normal group
(64,09), Cummins & Midlo value index in the mentally retarded group (12.9) was lower
than the normal group (13.9). The average of the total ridge count in the mentally
retarded group (114.1) was lower than the normal group (142.8), t test was significant at p=0,05.
Fingerprints patterns proportion and total ridge count were statistically different
between mentally retarded group and normal Croup, but Simian line proportion was not
different significantly on both these groups. | en_US |
