SWESTY SRY DESIMA NADEAK. Post-Treatment Effect of Board to
Dimensional Stability and Durability Properties of Particleboard Made From
Sorghum Bagasse. Under supervised APRI HERI ISWANTO and TITO
SUCIPTO.
In general, the weakness of particleboard using of urea formaldehyde
(UF) resin had a low dimensional stability. This reasearch will improve of that
weakness by post-treatment technique used several water repellent materials. The
objective of this research was to evaluated the post-treatment effect of board to
dimensional stability and durability properties against to subterranean and dry
termites. For each sample respectively was dyed into several water reppelent
materials such as parafin, palm oil, silicon and waterproof for 3 minute.
Furthermore, samples were oven dried at 50 0C temperature for 24 hours. The
result showed that the density parameter was varied of 0,60 to 0,74 g/cm3. Board
treated caused of increasing the density value. Water absorption and thickness
swelling parameter of board were varied of 29,35% to 114,99% and 13,23 to
37,31 % respectively. Inspite of post-treatment resulting of improvement
dimensional stability up to 65%, but the thickness swelling value did not fulfill
standard. Furthermore, durability test showed that post-treatment able to
improve of durability properties. For durability to subterranean termites attack
resulted silicon treatment had the best durable to termites. Whereas for dry
termites attack, waterproof treatment had the best durable
