MUHAMMAD IDRIS. Effect of Strand Length on Oriented Strand Board
Quality made from Tali Bamboo (Gigantochloa apus Kurz). Under supervised
APRI HERI ISWANTO and TITO SUCIPTO.
The objective of this research was to evaluate the effect of strand length on
OSB quality made from Tali bamboo. Variation of strand length that used in this
research was 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 cm. The size of boards, thickness and density
target were 25x25 cm2, 1 cm, and 0,7 g/cm3 respectively. OSB was manufactured
in three layer with perpendicular strand orientation for each layers. Layers ratio
in face:core:back was 1:2:1. The amount of 5% Isocyanate resin (H3M type) with
98% solid content for binding in manufacturing of board. After mat forming, the
next step was hot pressing process in 1600C temperature for 5 minutes and
25 kgcm-2 pressure. The results showed that parameter of physical properties had
fulfill requirement of JIS A 5908 (2003) except of moisture content. Furthermore,
overall the parameter of mechanical properties had fulfill those standard. Trend
of MOR and MOE showed that increasing of strand length caused of increasing
those parameter, but the opposite trend occured on internal bond
