Frankincense (kemenyan) is a forest plant that grows naturally in Tapanuli Utara
Regency. This study aimed to evaluate the actual and potential land suitability
classes in forest plants and map the actual and potential land suitability classes in
several sub-districts in Tapanuli Utara Regency. This research is located in Adian
Koting Village, Pansur Napitu Village, and Simasom Village. This study used the
matching method between land characteristics and forest plant criteria. The
results showed that the actual land suitability of petai (Parkia speciosa), durian
(Durio zibethinus), duku (Lansium domesticum), rubber (Hevea brassiliensis),
arabica coffee (Coffea arabica), robusta coffee (Coffea canaphora), gambier
(Uncaria gambir Roxb.), pine (Pinus merkusii), sengon (Albizia falcataria), and
rasamala (Altingia excelsa) was marginally suitable (S3). If improvements are
made, then the potential land suitability class for pine (Pinus merkusii), sengon
(Albizia falcataria), damar (Agathis loranthifolia), rasamala (Altingia excelsa),
and gambier (Uncaria gambir Roxb.) is moderately suitable (S2) while petai
(Parkia speciosa), durian (Durio zibethinus), duku (Lansium domesticum), rubber
(Hevea brassiliensis), arabica coffee (Coffea arabika), and robusta coffee (Coffea
canaphora) are marginally suitable (S3).
