dc.description.abstract | This research aims to identify sources of risk, analyze the level of production and price risks, recommend alternative efforts to overcome the risks faced and analyze the risk preferences of shallot farmers in Liang Pematang Village, Sinembah Tanjung Muda Hulu District, Deli Serdang Regency. The method of determining the research area is purposive while the method conducted in determining the sample is the simple random sampling method as many as 30 samples. The data analysis method used in this research is a survey method with descriptive analysis, risk analysis, Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) and Domain Specific Risk Taking (DOSPERT). The result showed that the sources of risk in shallot farming are weather conditions, pest attacks, disease attacks, availability of seeds, availability of labors, selling price of shallots and price of fertilizers and pesticides. Production risk analysis shows that the coefficient of variation in production is 0.11 with a lower limit of 10,566. Price risk analysis shows that the coefficient of price variation is 0.05 with a lower limit of 17.438. The result indicates that shallot farmers do not experience production risk or price risk. The levels of risk sources from highest to lowest are selling price, price of fertilizers and pesticides, weather conditions, pest attacks, availability of seeds, disease attacks and labors. Alternative efforts in handling every risk are to manage distribution lines, use organic fertilizers and pesticides, do crop rotation, control pests and diseases, cultivate their own seeds by farmers and carry out labor efficiency.
