Abstract
Himpunan Seni Dan Budaya Sri Indera Ratu Medan founded by Alm.
Dra.Hj.Tengku Sita Syaritsa and has been established since 1968, the formation of
this association as a forum to preserve Malay culture and other Sumatran cultures.
Duka Dang Puan Dance is the last work of the late. Dra.Hj.Tengku Sita Syaritsa
who tells the story of a woman's sadness. The movements in the dance were
created when He was in a sad condition because He was unable to carry out his
daily activities. This dance is danced by a group of women with graceful
movements but still shows enthusiasm for the dance. The purpose of this study
was to describe and obtain the results of the Duka Dang Puan dance, namely: (a)
dance structure and (b) musical accompaniment at the Sri Indra Ratu Arts and
Culture Association. The writer uses performance theory, choreography and
music description theory. The method used is a qualitative research method by
conducting observations, interviews, and recording. The results of this study are
the Dang Puan Grief dance performance danced by 4-6 female dancers. This
dance has typical Malay movements such as reciprocal humming, kuak, lenggang,
contortion and sinsing. This dance has a tempo that changes, starting with a slow
tempo, then a fast tempo. In the Duka Dang Puan dance there is repetition of
movements but with different tempos. Duka Dang Puan Dance is accompanied by
a song created by the late Dra.HJ.Tengku Sita Syaritsa so that the dance and
accompanying music have the same meaning. The music for the Duka Dang Puan
dance accompaniment uses the accordion, drum pakpung, and bass. The Pakpung
drum is the tempo bearer in this dance and the accordion is the melody carrier.
This dance is performed at events at the Maimun Palace and can also be a filler in
other performances.
